Sustainable Development Village

Bangladesh is impacted by climate-induced slow onset and sudden disasters including freshwater deficiency, salinity ingression in soil and water, tidal inundation, floods, cyclones, storm surges, and drought in different regions. The climate-induced slow onset and sudden extremes prohibit livelihoods and also hamper human health, employment, education as well as all human security.  The marginal homes, minorities, landless, fisherfolk, and women-headed families are the most sufferer in the area.  Therefore, the Sustainable Development Village (SDV) Model is intended to improve food security, livelihood, and employment opportunities among women and youth. It also promotes the supply chain of climate-resilient agricultural and non-farm products to the national market.  The project introduced quality education, and climate-resilient health service, facilitating partnership development with local support systems including local government institutions, the Department of Public Health, the Department of Livestock, etc.

In each SDV, we are promoting SDG goals through:

  • GOAL 1: No Poverty (Transforming rural economy)

  • GOAL 2: Zero Hunger (Poverty graduation through climate-smart employment generation)

  • GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being (access to health services)

  • GOAL 4: Quality Education (Nature School)

  • GOAL 5: Gender Equality (Women-inclusion)

  • GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation (Surface water restoration)

  • GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy (Solar and biogas promotion)

  • GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth (productive work for women, men, and youth with dignity)

  • GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (Resilient infrastructure)

  • GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality (Inclusion of women, persons with disability, and minorities)

  • GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities (Community-managed and community-led development)

  • GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production (Water and energy efficiency, zero waste)

  • GOAL 13: Climate Action (Climate-smart entrepreneurship, climate-resilient farming, nature-based solution)

  • GOAL 14: Life Below Water (Aquaculture)

  • GOAL 15: Life on Land (Horticulture)

  • GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions (Community group formation and strengthening)

  • GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal (Access to market, value chain and supply chain development, access to local government, and access to the government support system for health, water, vaccination, etc.)
