Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman (Apu) is working In Center for People & Environ (CPE) as Coordinator (Climate Change Adaptation Mitigation Experiment & Training Park). He is a dedicated researcher, practitioner, climate change and policy advocate based in Bangladesh. He has extensive scientific and social research experience for more than four years in project planning, implementing, monitoring and reporting on climate change, disaster risk reduction, environmental, social, and development interventions.
He is also serving as the Country Coordinator for Bangladesh at the Global Affairs Unit (GAU) of the 16th UN Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY16). He is also a Global Coordination Team member at YOUNGO, the Children and Youth Constituency at United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). He also serves as the Communication Focal Point and Core Team Member, YPARD Bangladesh.
He has worked as the Principal investigator at the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado Boulder, USA, under two different projects: ‘Homelessness, Housing Precarity and Disaster Network (HHDN)’ and ‘COVID-19 and Healthcare Workers in Bangladesh’.
He has also served as an Expert Reviewer at the Global Development Network (GDN) for Global Development Award Competition (2020 and 2021); t Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6): Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability and at SLOCAT Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport for the Transport and Climate Change Global Status Report (TCC-GSR) 2020. He has also served as the academic reviewer for the Frontiers in Psychiatry, The Asian Fisheries Science (AFS) and Springer Nature Publisher.
He is a Doctoral Researcher at the Department of Sociology at Lancaster University, Lancaster, UK. After his Bachelor in Environmental Sciences from Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, he has completed a Master’s degree from the same Department. During his graduation and post-graduation study, he was involved in several extracurricular activities and volunteered with different national and international organizations such as YOUNGO, UN MGCY, COY16, MIT Climate CoLab, WISER.ORG, Oxfam Bangladesh, Earth Day Network, 350.org, Bangladesh Junior Academy of Science (BJAS), JICA Bangladesh, DOE, etc. He is also a general member of the Bangladesh Society of Environmental Scientists (BSES), UN Environment Programme Major Group for Children and Youth (UNEP MGCY), IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP), Population-Environment Research Network (PERN) and a Lifetime Member of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA).
He has presented his research works at national and international conferences, including USA, Germany, China, Egypt and Philipines. He has also published several articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed international journals and publishers. He was selected as a fellow of GOBESHONA Young Researchers Program-2017, arranged by the International Centre for Climate Change & Development (ICCCAD). He was also awarded the SAYRID-Social Research Excellence Award in 2017; Best Paper Award at the 7th Climate Change Online Conference (CLIMATE2020) in 2020. He has also received a couple of research and project grants in the last few years
